Is a House Rabbit for You?
Has the isolation of the pandemic have you scrolling through adoption sites? Do you find yourself day-dreaming about a fluff ball around your house, to wink back at you when you ask “is it 5 o’clock yet?”. I was there and now I have 2 beautiful bunnies who are chewing and pooing and living their best lives.
Please consider ADOPTING a rabbit rather than buying one from a breeder. There are plenty of baby and rescued bunnies in search of a good home. The House Rabbit Society is an excellent resource!
Rabbits have strong personalities
They are intelligent prey animals and they have a lot of emotions. They are territorial and food motivated. Depending on how they were handled when they were young, they can be more outgoing or more independent. Some enjoy fresh veggies and chewing everything in their sight. Some prefer digging and crawling into small spaces. Your adoption agency can provide some insight into their personality. However, your bunny’s personality will unfold once they get settled into their new home. Some behaviors can be trained and adjusted, much like a dog, but rabbits have no looming desire to make their humans happy. Consider the following when choosing a breed or how much effort it would take to train your rabbit:
